Social development initiative makes the third pillar of Pindi Foundation. Under this initiative, the community members are engaged at a common platform to discuss the important social issues via the awareness generation camps. Other than this, the foundation provides financial and medical assistance to the socially vulnerable groups including widows and the elderly.
Awareness Generation Camps:
The main aim of the awareness generation camps is to create awareness in the community on issues relating to the status, rights and problems of women. Its main objectives are to identify needs of rural and poor women, to increase their active participation in decision making both in the family and community on development issues including atrocities on women and children.
Till now, Pindi Foundation has organized six awareness generation camps (AGP) camps during the years 2009-10 and 2012-13, covering about 150 poor women in slum colonies.
In the year 2009-10, three AGP camps were held at Dainik Bhasker Colony, Sector 25, Colony no. 5 and Nehru Colony, near Sec 52 Chandigarh. In the year 2012-13, three camps were held at Rag Picker colony, Sector 56,Gwala colony, Maloya and Dainik Bhasker Colony Sector 25 Chandigarh.
SAFE (Social Assistance for Elders Program): Since in India senior citizens prefer home care than institutional care like old age home, so a special programme has been initiated for home based care to elderly. The volunteers of the foundation arrange for medical assistance to elderly people and appropriate referral whenever it is required.
Widow Maintenance Relief: Widows who have no other source of income are provided this relief. One widow gets a relief of Rs 400/- including the expenditure incurred for daily living and education fees to her two children.
Promotion of Village Self Help Groups: To promote brotherhood and for community participation in development, self-help groups of volunteers are being promoted which will undertake social and development activities in the adopted villages.
